Changes to the Cafe a la Fikr

Assalam-u-'alaikum wrwb,

After discussing amongst the steering/founding members of the Cafe a la Fikr and in keeping with the original intent of the forum (learning Islam via different mediums of engagement such as discussion, topic presentations, audio-visual, etc) and noticing the varying levels of participation amongst community members, we have decided to make the Cafe meeting on a every two month basis rather than monthly and have decided to extend basic Islamic foundational learning to a weekly session/halaqah.
This "halaqah" (circle of 'learning and dhikr') has been happening privately for several months but at this point we are considering and would like to conduct it in the masjid (central location for everyone) as a portal for learning key Islamic knowledge. This "halaqah" is primarily intended for the male members of the Cafe and other community members who wish to join in and is in addition to the female halaqah which occurs on sundays prior to the zuhr prayers. The new planned "halaqah" for the male participants will be Qur'an based in which teaching and learning of tajwid and memorization of the Qur'an will be the key features along with discussion and reflections based on various tafaseer. We will also augment the learning from time-to-time by covering certain fund of basic knowledge with regards to Arabic, Aquidah, Fiqh, Seerah and Hadith. This "halaqah" will be, for now, on Monday evenings 7-9:30pm. We will begin with Surat-ul-Fatihah and then shift to Surah an-Nas (the last surah) and work forward. We would like to extend this to all who would like to join in - as learning of the Qur'an is absolutely obligatory and essential for a Muslim.

Jazakallah khair to everyone

wasalam
