Cafe a la Fikr meeting

Assalam-u-alaikum wrwb,


Please mark your calenders for the upcoming Cafe Fikr meeting inshallah on Saturday the 23rd of December 2006 at the premises of IAWV. The meeting will inshallah start at 6:00 pm sharp after the Maghrib prayer.

JazakAllah Khair for everyone who attended the last Cafe at the Islamic Center. The response from the community has been excellent and inshallah we hope that the interest shown by all will continue.

The Cafe this time will focus on the book by Dr. Jeffery Lang "Losing my Religion" as Dr. Lang is scheduled to come to the Cafe on January 13th 2007 and hopefully after this Cafe, we will all be well aware of his work and ask him pertinent questions. The intention is to engage in discussion with 'adab' as stressed upon in the last Cafe. From the back cover.....

"Crucial to the vitality of any religious community is its ability to attract and engage descendents and converts. By this measure, notwithstanding the proliferation of mosques and Islamic organizations, the Muslim community in America is not doing well at all."
This rather sober assessment motivates Dr. Lang to address, in this book, the alienation from the Mosque of the great majority of America's homegrown muslims.
